my store takes back everything, and i mean everthing. then when its processed as a markdown because we wont get credit for it. MODs complain about the dollar amout being markdown. theres no give or take here. i can't fight for credit for something i know will be a waste of time.

Have you tried calling up any fellow RTV clerks in your district to see if they have any tips? It might be a global problem, not just your store?

I understand that this is cust service, but sometimes you have to draw the line and not let the cust walk all over us.

in response to #!'s problem with MOD's complaining about the markdown dollars. Test them and ask them what part of the P&L RTV markdowns come out of. I can tell you right now it isn't on the markdown line. Most DH's and Managers don't know this. This answer is coming from a very seasoned Receiving Supervisor.

I am an RTV associate at a Buffalo store, I have the same problem as you with managers complaining about markdown dollars. My store returns everything, we even return products from non-home depot stores (don't ask, I have no idea how this happens). If you have the availability of a place to donate to that takes a lot of the heat off of me since you can donate nearly anything and we get all the credit for it back as soon as the donation is picked up. Currently, we are donating to "Gifts in Kind," but many other organizations take donations too. if you can get hooked up with one it makes a great difference. If not guest number 5 makes a good point, we are different than actual store markdown dollars that everyone is concerned about but no one seems to know that. I hope this helps!

I just gave a vacation to an rtv clerk..I had 6 hours of training..I should have had more but we were cutting on hours..we just had a walk with a DM that Friday they were @#$% about the amount of money in the cage around 26 thousand..anyways needless to say when I came in on Monday to give the vacation the ops asm said she wanted the cage down to 15 thousand by Friday..so I learned quick that no one might not know that job but another rtv clerk so..call..call..call get those rgas get that money back as fast as possible..then fax fax fax because sometimes they want requests in writing..keep a close eye on the white goods things they pile up fast...ask your asm every Monday how much you can m-d obviously on the items that are dead in the water not floor return possible or rga..Monday is a good day because they might not be willing to do it on latter in the week because they might have used up all their m-d dollars for the week...send out for repair.. ship ship ship so that those things drop off your report...and umm keep that cage amount down ..needless to say I did get the cage this Friday down to 16 thousand...since I didn’t get complete training I was shocked..and I apologized to the returning rtv clerk in advance if I royally @#$% up her cage.

To #7: It seems you did an amazing job! At my store the only thing RTV related that anyone else knows how to do is verify items and that is just me rec'g supervisor. Noone covers my vacations. My cage is usually between 30-36 thousand w/ no hope of keeping it much lower than that. I don't see how you got ANYTHING done on Monday. My days start at 6am doing the opening, hazmat and equipment checklists then cleaning up the horrible mess left in rec'g from the weekend. Then at 7 I am usually unloading the first DC truck.( No rec. people come in till 9) After that rec'g is so slammed that you can't even hear when you call for RGA's. OFRs are a joke, it takes forever to look up the info and create all those OFR will calls in the system and then checking them in takes a while too. My hat is off to you for doing what seems like a Great job!
