Please stop giving demerits for Walmart employees taking sick days. It's just wrong.

I just lost my job (just after my 1 year mark) for using my sick leave. I wasn't told that my illness met the qualifications of LOA because I was told in orientation that LOA is for 'foreseeable illnesses or procedures' I was out 4 days with a stomach virus, used my sick leave and still got a D day. I had other points for absences due to my severe egg allergies (they put me in both the deli and dairy departments KNOWING i had severe allergies), and for inclement weather. After I brought in an ER excuse I was told "that's nice but it still won't keep you from taking points" and then later learned had I used an LOA I wouldn't have taken points, but wouldn't have received any pay for that week. They DO need to make it clear, and frankly I think if an associate brings in a doctor's excuse then it should be EXCUSED.... PERIOD! It's WM's policy on sick leave that makes bugs spread so bad. You have associates coming in sick, handling product and interacting with customers and soon enough it's all over a community. VERY irresponsible if you ask me.

If you miss more than 3 days in 6 months there is an issue stop calling in I have missed 2 days in 6 years and I am a single mom.... if you need your job deal with the pain.

you are gonna get a point for calling in on the first day. sick pay kicks in on the second day and you're still under the same 1 point. WHY would you even go to work. it's a paid to stay home FREE day.

Do different stores have different policies. Or is it just what management makes up at the time?

yeh i was told by our managment that you have to request personal time in advance, and if you quit you dont get paid for the sick time you aquired, also we have managment that leaves early to pick up kids and go to school functions all the time, and yet if we tryed to do that we'd be in the unemployment line.

I had signed up for overtime hours being given out due to it being the week of Christmas. Sweet i was gonna get extra spending money which i needed since i am only part time 30-33 hours a week(was told i was eligible to be bumped up to full time if i wanted after being there 3 months during my hiring).

Middle of the week i get a horrible stomach virus. I had gotten stomach flus before and hadn't missed work because of it several times before. It starts with me throwing up and then diarrhea. Then the worst part. I try to sleep it off and hope I'm better before work the next afternoon. Every half hour, literally, i'm passing all fluids(water) through me i drink. I try to go back to sleep and feel thirsty so i drink a bit of water. keeps happening. i don't eat anything else a few hours after this starts. feel horribly weak. Next day before i'm supposed to go to work i tell my dad i'm not going into work and i want to get checked out by a doctor.

I have no medical insurance. the checkup costs me about 90 dollars. get a prescription for nausea medication(about 10$), instructed on a light liquid diet, and to stay home for the next two days. take doctor's note to CSMs that night. after those two other days missed is christmas day. i pay a hundred dollars to get checked by a doctor because i have an illness worse than i can remember having. plus i ended up only working about half the hours i would've worked before signing up for the extra hours(that would've ended up with some overtime).

so thats 3 unexcused absences. and if i get another before 6 months is up i get coached, maybe fired. I've been going to work a lot lately with a runny nose, coughing/sneezing. oh well...
